New plugs installed with Yamabond. The cam cover gasket ordered from Kawasaki. They don't have stock but aftermarket at $25. Fine with me.
The cover now installed temporarily just to seat the end plugs. Very happy - no dust will get in! :)

This is a different cover from the one in the other photos. And this one is open to the emission control valve, which I will install. It's an 'outboard' engine, so an easy access to everything. It will be easy to change that on the fly.

Front of the engine.

Back.

Not all is a complete final finish, so don't take everything you see as reference. The speedo gear will be flipped, radiator hose properly attached later, and I still need to install the upper radiator hose housing. I just don't have the gasket and can't find my small gasket material!

I think I made up my mind and for now I will go with the shallow oil pan.

The timing advance unit is removed. I am about to look for the o-ring (for the right opening). I think it's 22 mm? I might just have one.

The tensioners installed. The cam chain tensioner is modified. It snapped into place beautifully and the chain is nice and tight, as it should be. I did insert a nut inside, after making it round. Good recommendation by others.

The #1 and #6 pistons are at the top dead end. The crankshaft is in position - the 'T' aligned with engines mating surfaces.

Timing advancer set first to 'F' aligned with the dot. The picture shows where the timing rotor should be by the manual. In this case, the projection was actually a tiny bit counterclockwise. I haven't touched the three mounting screws. Thinking it was taken off a running engine, for now I am leaving it as is.

Any thoughts?

Here the rotor aligned with the 'T'. (not visible but you can see it when looking at it in your hand though the hole at the top).

Well, let's see I I find tha o-ring and if I do, a photo of the housing installed will follow.

Found the o-ring!

The housing is in place. The 'T' aligned perfectly, very pleased! :)

The right hand engine cover missing - because I decided to chrome it after all, and just came back from the shop. It will be ready in 2 weeks. And a good thing these days, all done safely dealing with one person only and at a distance. But whom am I kidding. Construction workers risk their lives mingling with coworkers and tenants, engineers etc. every day.

Just a teaser. I love having the brackets chrome plated. Looks good and maintenance free! Just wipe it off once in a while.

Superb work.
And do you recline on the sofa from time to time to contemplate and admire your engine?
By the way - well done for keeping the carpet so clean!

Well, the carpet gets dirty at this stage. It's way beyond reasonable at this point. But we vacuum. We gave up on real cleaning until 'stuff' is done at this point. The camera and lighting makes it worse than it looks, so please don't criticize. Mind over matter, temporarily, and we are clean loving folks.
