Heads up on the parts and I just want to confirm that with patience good parts are available at a good price. I got a very nice, in a great shape withing the specs cam chain for $17.

I'll ask that you keep an eye on this aspect once you get your chains in there. One of the chains and I thought it was the secondary chain will chew it's way in to a web and it would be nice to point this issue out so that everyone understands how important it is to not run with chains out of spec. Never mind the second disaster, breaking a chain and all hell has broken loose.
Thanks,

I definitely will, with photos. It's a good time to address any flaws int the cases, with hope it will help others and save a few machines from death..

Inner driven shaft needle thrust bearing and shims quick reminder: smaller diameter inside (towards the gear), larger outside, (lettering goes outside of course), closed face of the bearing inside, open face out, fine tune shims and a the thick stopping shim last to the crank case. (not sure what the proper names for these are but works for me).

Before installing double check the gears alignment for proper contact. They are all part of the same set, but perhaps some minimal crank case differences will need to be addressed.

Correction:

Post #21669 had in secondary shaft section mentioned "water pump and cam timing sprockets". They are in fact "timing (and water pump) and cam timing sprockets" There is no pulse pick up assembly at the end of the shaft connected by the chain in later models. (like mine already running '82)

After rough sorting out the bolts and pieces bought in a plastic bag, time to really find their places.

99% success! Got enough bolts to match almost every size and placement. All in great shape, but everything will need final cleaning, and I will chase all the threads as well.

Feels fun doing this! And what can I say... size does matter! :woohoo:
