Ok so my Dyna Coils turned up complete with new leads and plug caps. I’ve removed the ballast resistor as the coils are marked 3ohms on the body and removed the old coils. Now too the next problem
the new coils are a lot bigger than the standard ones and having the sockets for the leads sticking out of the top I’m struggling to get them to fit. I’ve squeezed the center coil in and the plug leads are tight up against the top frame rail which doesn’t seem ideal to me. I’ve called it day for now as there was a likelihood of tools flying up the garage. So has anyone else fitted Dyna Coils to their 13 who can give me a few hints please?

Looking back through posts on the subject of Dyna coils fitment, it seems that they are too big to fit where the original coils fit.  KZQ fitted two in the original location, and one in the tool tray, after re-shaping the seat pan.   Phil fitted his to the cam cover.   There might be more information, but I haven’t read through all the old posts yet.

Well I’ve managed to squeeze the three coils in the original places. The center coil just fits in but the rubber boot is touching the top frame rail so it’s suck it and see if it behaves itself. The other two were a lot easier, the right hand one was fitted with the HT outlets facing rearward as the top hose fouled the HT leads. The left hand coil fitted nicely with the outlets facing forward. The bike started and ran fine so the next job is balance the carbs and get the colour tune out and fine tune them. Once again thanks for all the help

Glad you’ve managed it. It would be interesting to see a photo of your installation.

Given that the ignition coils are mounted  in a position where they are subjected to considerable heat from the engine, I wonder how much the resistance increases as a consequence.

I’ll take a photo of the installation tomorrow when I finish the job off.
as to the heat affecting the coils, the originals have lasted 44years and I’m 70 next May I think they’ll outlast me

Anymore, that's my attitude. When I was young, I rode motorcycles until they were worn out. Now I realize that I'll probably die before my current fleet does.
