Built a spreadsheet to calculate shim size. I set at ideal at 80%, but if you choose to use 100% allowed clearance per KawBoys suggestion, it's an easy change.

Clicky to Download.

It's a Libre Office file, free, works like Excel.

After searching numerous pages selling spare parts for 29 mm diameter shims, with prices ranging from 3.5 euros to 10 euros plus shipping costs.

I decided to go this morning to the shop that mechanically conditioned the cylinder head.

Of course they had 29mm shims and of all sizes, the TOTAL cost of the 10 units was 20 euros.

As a catalog reference, they told me that these shims are mounted by BMW on various types of engines.

nice!! Well done !!

Back in the 1980's I used to be able to go to the dealership and "trade in" shims that I didn't need and pick up the ones I needed . It used to cost me $2 a shim.

The shims that the engine had mounted are quite marked on the side where the camshaft exerts force, I will not have them changed, they will still serve me well if one day I have to adjust my KZ 1000, they are the same diameter.

I already have the adjustment done on the exaust line, it has been perfect.

I have not been able to complete the inlet line since three shims came out that were not the size that I supposedly thought had been assembled.

I used the tool I bought to hold the valve spring and release pressure on the shim.

Tomorrow I will go and change them, yes, for others with the corrected measurement.

That shim in the first picture is really galled. I have never seen one like it. Is the camshaft lobe OK?  I would also check the oiling supply to the camshaft and spill ports that lubricate the camshaft lobes and cam followers.
