Cruising the forum, found this post  where  tackelhappy  wrote
I ordered new rear shocks . YSS list a shock specifically for the Z 1300 . This set came from the Netherlands . The hole size  for the top and bottom bushing is the wrong size . I have a support ticket open . No fix as yet .
I too have found this to be true...

Email to Dan at Traxxion Dynamics (where I bought the shocks from)

Hi Dan,
Previously, tried to fit the YSS shocks on the 1979 Kz1300 - they don’t fit.

Got around to test fitting the YSS shocks on the 1981 KZ1300 as the two shocks are entirely different.
The 79 and 80 shock is a plain Jane emulsion shock. The 81 and 82 have air assist, and were made by KYB, model 1118.

Short of Long.. No go, no fit.

It’s apparent YSS isn’t aware of differences between 1979, 1980  to 1981 and 1982 Kz1300’s sold in the USA.

From Kawasaki’s “Owners" section…
This is not true.
From the YSS website , 1979 thru 1982 shocks are compatible.

Here are actual dimensions….

Back to my friend AI, it looks like some manufacturers offer various bushing sizes..
I wonder if YSS could provide the correct bushing size

Unfortunately, I don’t see anyway to make these shocks work on any of my three KZ’s.
Available options-
1    You contact the factory with this info and see if they can provide correct bushing sizes?
2    Return them for full refund and search for other suppliers
If #2 is the chosen option,
1    what other options do you think are available?
    ◦    Penske builds a custom shocks for me?
    ◦    Other ideas?
Regarding shipping them back to you-
1    They arrived ‘double-boxed’. I recycled the ‘outer’ box. Is it OK to return the two shocks inside a ’single’ box?
2    Do you have a FedEx/UPS shipping account I can use to send them back?

Here’s a cut and paste of info from my website-

These YSS shocks didn't fit the 1979 KZ1300.
But what about the 1981 Kz1300 that has completely different looking shock?
The answer?
Nope.

The upper mount OD is 14mm.
The shock upper mount ID is 16mm.

The upper mount on the bike is 14mm.
2mm too large.

Lower mount is 14mm.
