Cam chain rollers
15 hours 52 minutes ago
Getting close to putting the head back on. What do y'all think about theses rollers ? Bike supposedly has 11k miles on it. I know there is a steel one available but I'm a little reluctant, not sure about the whole steel on steel part. I guess it's okay, the 1000s use steel guide rollers. Not going to put many miles on it when finished, just something to play around on...

What's your concern about using a steel roller? The ends of that chain are on steel gears.

Yeah you're right I guess I didn't think of that LOL. I am wondering about reusing the original nylon gear ? This bike is not going to see many miles or hard use.

Your rollers appear to be in reasonably good shape. The black one is buna - n nitrile and you should carefully look at it for cracks and replace if any found. The nylon one looks good for the most part. We've seen far worse still in use although if your at this point, it would be a shame to not put in the Liska steel toothed roller. When the nylon gear goes, they break up into little pieces. Don't know about you, but I don't like "little pieces "floating around in my engines.

I'm convinced. I'll order the steel gear tomorrow. Lots of nylon in this engine. Water pump, ignition, cam chain. I've got a Suzuki GT750 that has a nylon gear for the water pump drive, every one I've ever seen has cracks radiating from the steel center. I always thought that was in case the water pump locked up it wouldn't seize the engine up just break the gear. IDK ?
