I found two of the leads were connected to the wrong cylinders, so checking the firing order.
Its starting now but still not right.
Found this from a previous post ;Looking to the front of the bike; Top coil RHS HT lead to cyl. 6LHS HT lead to cyl 1 BLACK WIRELeft under coil. RHS HT lead to cyl 5LHS HT lead to cyl 2 GREEN WIRERight under coil RHS HT lead to cyl 4LHS HT lead to cyl 3 BLUE WIRE TO ECU
I have added the wire colours, which is what I have, but is this correct?
Also do the 12v yellow power wires have to be to a specific terminal or can you power them from either tab?
Is the spark simultaneous for the two leads from each coil or sequential , Otherwise I cant see how they can achieve that firing order in the manual.
thanks

Topo coil fires 1 &6 simultaneously.
Right lower coil fires 2 & 5 simultaneously
Left lower coil fires 3 &4 simultaneously
Found on page 49 of the Service Manual

Hi. It sounds like you have the same fault as me – namely, poor grounding. The wiring harness on DFI models is vulnerable. Use a multimeter and check the coil resistance both with the ignition off and on. It should read about 0–0.2 Ω. If it’s higher than that, you likely have a loose terminal or a broken wire causing trouble. At the same time, check all ground points: at the DFI unit, the main relay, the engine block, etc. Poor grounding can lead to backfire, rough running, hard starting, and more.

Thank you Jorgeno
I have ordered another two coils as I have already replaced one when the black smoke got out.
I had plugs 1 and 6 out and grounded and they sparked happily for about 5 to 10 seconds and then failed, bike was running on 4 pots.
I was fooled ( not difficult) as each of the many times I removed no. 6 plug and checked for spark when cranked it was ok.
I have the coils powered correctly now as its marked on them and know which coils the blue , green and black wires go to from the ecu.
I also worked out that 1 and 6 /3,4/2,5 are on the same crank angle(?) but the compression stroke is 180 degrees out , coupled with the wasted spark and the ecu gives the firing order as listed in the manual.
I will test continuity to the coils and ecu and other ground wires I can find.
I feel like I am getting close, but I said that 6 months ago so maybe I 'll say that I hope I'm getting closer and leave it at that.
Cheers

Good news
Two new coils and my bike is no longer "possessed"
The new coils don't have input polarity marked on them , so I fitted them the same as the old ones.
However the ground tests I did show 0.4 ohms consistently , so am going to remove the main earth strap and find that issue.
Have since found a broken tacho cable and front brakes may need a visit.
Thanks for the assistance
