We had one at the training center and I had to spend 40 hours training on it to round out my machine shop training. A very powerful tool capable of removing a lot of material in a short time but fixing the stock to the table was really critical. I like to think of a shaper as a wood plane using a chisel toothed bit to do the work. I don't know any shop that has or uses one.
