Z1300 Recreation (Fuel Injection)
1 week 4 days ago - 1 week 4 days ago
Looking to build a Z1300 fuel injection from scratch. I have many of the parts but I'm struggling with a few. The engine is a rebuilt Voyager engine with its harness, & a Z1300 frame. I need to source a rght hand switch, a correct Z1300 tank and custom digital guages that I can house in the original cluster housing(or I will need to change a few things under the valve cover). The reason for this build is that I wanted a 1984 through 89 Z1300 fuel injection bike and they were never available in the US. Any advice will also be helpful. Thanks. Jim

Hello Jim,
I've recently gone through a ZN 1300 fuel injection system with some success. I'm looking forward to following your project.

There is a 27 litre fuel tank on Ebay - known in North America as a B2 from 1980. Looks around $1200.00 with freight. And there is two in Quebec , but they look pretty rough.
The Kawasaki shop in Germany has new wiring harness for the fuel injected bikes.

Thank you for responding. To make sure that I understand your post, the Z1300s from 1983 through 1989 use a 27 litre tank which is the same as the North American 1980 B2 tank less the fuel return line?

In 1979 , the first models to America were KZ 1300 with 21.4 litre fuel tank. And the shortened rear fender. The rest of the world got the Z 1300 with the 27 litre tank and the longer rear fender. When the fuel injection got added , the naked bikes got dropped from North America , and became ZN 1300 Voyager . The rest of the world they became the ZG 1300 and still a naked bike- but they no doubt had the ZN engine.
As for the fitting of the gas tank, I have a A model and the B model and the tanks are inter- changeable. The B model gas tank part # is not the same as the ZG part number -that could be just the paint colour. - and as you mentioned - no fuel line return. But none of the frame numbers from the Z and the KZ are the same either. But as you are using a KZ frame and I can verify that the B model tank fits the A model frame - thats as close as I can get.
And there are many subtle differences between a Z and a KZ - especially in the packaging of the DFI and the extra electronics , and to my knowledge , not alot of photo's to look at .
