Hello KEL:
The rear drive is separate from the wheel hub.
Just remove the wheel per the manual instructions and the wheel will separate from the final drive. The final drive stays attached to the swing-arm.
Don't forget the axle spacer that is internal, between the wheel hub and final drive.
Clean then lightly coat the axle, spacer, and collars with high temp axle grease.
Clean the male and female sides of the drive splines.
While apart, check the final drive oil seal for leaks, no leaks allowed in this area.
If you haven't changed the final drive oil in a while:
drain the final drive oil and flush with clean petroleum based 80/90 gear lube.
allow the oil to drain for about a 1/2 hour, then install the drain plug.
Fill final drive with RED-LINE synthetic 80/90 gear lube. (API GL-5 or equivalent)
Propeller shaft:
If your sliding joints have not been done in a while, don't forget to lube those every 30K km.
Swing arm bearings should be done in the same interval as the shaft sliding joints.
Be careful for the first 50 miles on the new tire.
Regards.
