Awhile back, I mentioned that the starter sounded funny when cranking. Not the motor, but the mechanism hiding behind the case.

Finally got around to pulling the cover. Here's what I found. Just in the nick o' time?

Deep Purple playing in the background and you're working on a blue bike ?
Waiting for pics of the oblong holes the 3 bolts are in.
You keep this up and you'll eventually be able to check off "complete rebuild 2024"

Good catch on Deep Purple! You old phart...
Should I rattle can the ol' gurl to Purple and name her 'Rain'?

Was going to post this in another thread but here we go...

With parts becoming less available, I'm going to buy critical stuff now while guys like Helmut at z1300.de and Zed are around. I see that Zed has complete clutch assemblies available.

Now I need to get the rotor puller. Saw several good thread here about OEM puller vs harmonic balancer. Won't work for me. I have the rare 79 sub alternator kit installed, which rearranges parts. I don't have the 3 female threads for a 'puller' anymore.

I see several tools available, just got to order them up.

I hope to have another fair to good 10 years. If  don't get around to using the parts, someone else will get a good deal.

Background. In 1974 I was 17. Started liking the /2 and 69s BMW's. Cosmopolitan motors in Santa Monica was going out of biz. I borrowed 10k from my Uncle Dutch to buy as much 'critical' inventory I could.

Used what I needed then foolishly sold off after a financial life altering decision  <divorce>.

It was like money in the bank.

Not to say I'm in it for bucks. Many a good ol BMW was put together with those parts.

Did I mention I have another KZ in my sights?

D
