OK all any advice before I start.
Have a KZ1300 frame originally came from the USA, probably in a shipping container full of bits, so never registered over here. I have no paperwork and it has probably been in this country for a lot of years. Who knows if and how I can register it, what's the pit falls prior to me deciding to put a bike together. Anyone have any experience of doing this.

Mark, ive registered a few US and EU imports before, but know that where no Log Book or Certificate of Title exists that DVLA have got a lot more stringent on accepting Dating Certificates.

DVLA web site will tell you how to get the V55/5 first registration of a used vehicle completed and therefore an age related registration nuimber, and how to address any import duty (for non EU bikes) via the NOVA system. Ive done this a few times before (but always had a complete bike as the basis) and its a bit if a faff, but if I can do it anyone can.

I know the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club used to be a main dating certificate provider that DVLA would accept when issuing an age related registration number.

You might want to give them a try ? www.vjmc.com/classic-motorcycle-dating-service-a.html

If not there's always Kawasaki UK Owners Club, and I think the Z1Owners Club of Great Britain is still recognised as a source for dating classic Kawasaki's. membership.z1ownersclub.co.uk/

Hi Tim,
Many thanks for the information, apologies for late reply been snowed under. Have a couple of frames and motors along with other spares so was considering a rebuild using the parts that are hanging around the garage. It might be simpler just to wait till a frame and logbook become available and go from there. Have plenty on at the moment so not in a big rush. However it wouldn't be a bad call to test the system and see how easy or difficult it is to go through the process,(lol could I deal with the frustration of the hassles when I hit them). At the moment it is time for some contemplation.

Makes you wish there was some international standard for the registration of vehicles. I once imported a KH500 Kawasaki from Wisconsin USA and they registered the engine serial number as the registered number for the bike. What a nightmare importing it to Canada and getting the paperwork corrected. Had to get a signed affidavit from a lawyer to state the registration was improperly filed. You can imagine how stupid it is to have to take a motorcycle to a lawyers office and show him the engine number and the frame number and have him go "yup, they registered the wrong number"
