Thanks!  I'm still slightly confused as to how it actually happened.  Was the click/ snap sound just a coincidence? Though I think I see what you mean, that situation could have caused  an open circuit.

My connectors have a fair bit of grease on the terminals from the previous owner which I'm not sure was helping much. Then again even dielectric grease can be a pain sometimes. I never know how far to go with that stuff.

At least I'm getting more confident with electrics in general these days.
I guess it's the same with most things, the more you do it, the better you get...well hopefully.

Now I just need to work out how to open up that main switch.
