I purchased a 1300 form a family that the husband passed away. It only has 4,900 miles on it, but I bought a battery , and it has no spark. Anyone have any ideas ? I'm kinda mechanically inclined, but not electrical
1986 Voyager with 4900 miles suggests that you got yourself a beauty and a great starting point.
If you haven't got a copy of the Service Manual, download the manual from the "Home " page of this site.
Lots of things to check.
First- We'll divide the ignition circuit in half and see if you have an electrical power supply issue or a switching issue.
Check and see if you have 9 volts at the + terminals of all three ignition coils. If not, we'll have to figure out why not.
You should be able to trace battery voltage from the battery through the 30A fuse> through the Main switch (which is the seat latch/Main Switch if you don't know) > through the ignition switch > engine stop switch> through the ballast resistor (under the fuel tank) then feeding the + terminals on all 3 ignition coils. ANY loss of battery voltage up to the feed to the ballast resistor needs to be found and cleaned.
The red line should be battery voltage
The orange line should be the approx. 9 volts after the resistor
