Weather patterns this year has been insane. Never seen anything like it. I've told stories to my kids about Trick or treating on oct 31st in a foot of snow and they laugh, telling me I must be nuts because in their lifetime, snow didn't happen until 1st week in December. my kids are 44 and 36 years old. 3 weeks ago we got our first snow fall of about 1 foot and a week later it was all melted. I laughingly told my son in Edmonton Alberta that I just might cut the grass on New Year's Day and at that time he was looking at -45 C in Edmonton with just shy of 3 feet of snow.
We're in for rain today and tomorrow then light snow on Friday. Just crazy and of course "there's no Global warming" going on right?? California went through a drought last summer and now unbelievable flooding happening right now. Too many people on this planet and all burning hydrocarbons messing up the ozone and we simply deny that it's our fault. Blamed on natural phenomena and we are not going to have a concerted effort to reduce hydrocarbon consumption?? Shameful.

Pat and I ditched our 35 ft fifth wheel trailer and F250 Ford pick up with the 6.7 Power stroke diesel which burned 18L/100Km and now romp around in a 2023 Ford Maverick with a 2 liter turbo that gets 7 liters/100 Km. That and reinsulated the house and reduced our natural gas bill by 40%. Now I will say that the goal was to reduce our expenditures being retired and not necessarily trying to help out the hydrocarbon issue but hey, it's a win, win situation. So I'll take it.
I'm still not ready to accept electric vehicles as the answer to all our problems. The battery technology is just not there yet in my humble opinion. Tesla cars for whatever reason still seem to be running on original batteries so Elon must have got something right. other manufacturers are struggling with battery longevity. Never mind all the requirements for rare elements. What an interesting time to be in developmental engineering.  Somebody is going to make a shit load of money when they get this all figured out. Cold Fusion anyone??

I'm doing my part with some decent mileage out of the 1300.  The goal this season is breaking 53MPG so although I'm not making that shit-load of $$$ I'm at least saving a lot given my original 25/35MPG ! .

Cold Fusion ?  What I experienced last Spring and Fall with my ass freezing to the seat !

So I take it from what you"ve written here,  that you have carefully thought through the ideas and solutions , and consequences about what you are promoting .
What I never hear about , or have explained, and so maybe you can help me with is, what is going to happen to cities like Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Calgary, Saskatoon , - pretty much all the western provinces of Canada - 3 or 4 million people - except maybe ,BC by 2050 -so just over 25 years from now , when all fossil fuel.extraction stops. Is illegal.  And 50% of prairie farmers will have to move off the land. So things like a job , a house in any of those places that is now worthless, a massive migration of people to Ontario or BC , to live in what and do what. And solutions/ predictions to the catastrophic social upheaval.
So how is all this going to play out -exactly ?

I'll just put on my thinking cap and ponder this for a moment. I don't always have all the answers but.......
Humans find it very hard to adopt change and for the most part will do ANYTHING to work around not having to make a change. If you've always said "I'll never move" and then find yourself surrounded by wildfires, you will move or die. So, are we there yet?? Most would say "there's no Global warming and I'm not changing my ways. Who cares if I as one person refuses to make a change. The rest of you can change if you want but I'm not changing." Sounds familiar??
Now what happens if the government steps in and makes new laws or taxes on hydrocarbon emissions. If you don't change, you'll be facing fines or taxes. One way or another you will finally have to make the change.
So whatever replaces the existing will create new jobs and it would be in the best interest of all if that replacement happened in the place that the old system was. So I would speculate that as an example Oil was out, the Alberta government would offer tax incentives to locate the new businesses to their province to offset the loss of the jobs that just got vaporized .
My son works for Schlumberger Oil Well Services, an international company worth billions and you can bet your ass that if oil wells are no longer needed, Schlumberger will open up new business rather than throwing in the towel. life will continue and sure, there will be those scrambling to find their place in the new world. The ones that will suffer the most are the ones that refuse to accept the change.
