That sounds like a possibility Kawboy. I would love to know what really happened. By the way some of the Bracket screws had severe grip marks around the edges, The person certainly didn't have a delicate touch.
Thank heavens for the enrichment mod as I would have thought this carb was junk. At that point I might have tried adding weld, or even welding a nut to the end of it.

Hi, new to this forum so forgive my ignorance but …. I have stripped my carbs, deep cleaned using U/S/C and checked all linkages - all went well until I hade to prove all the jets / ports etc … 3 out of 6 main jet to idle jet “passages“ were blocked
I managed to clear 2 of them using cleaner and compressed air but I’m stumped on the third - everything I try is useless - any tips / ideas?
Cheers

I bought a spare set of carbs as they were going for a reasonable price. They looked very nice.......

Me too !   Took me two weeks also; mostly waiting for some decent weather to bead-blast and paint the bodies.  At least your's had the Diaphragms !
I was also impressed with the condition of these ones.  The original chrome on the hardware cleaned-up nicely and I gave the bowls and lids a "street" polish.  Trying to get a "show" polish is impractical.
  • "Dual fuel-line" just because.  ( Can revert to a single end fuel line ( Right carb) or go back to the original Tee.  I've made some discreet plugs for the carb-ends if other options are desired.)
  • New Brass throughout.
  • Modified Pilot-needles:   (Socket-head conversion and Polished the tips to a point.)
  • Choke-Air mod.
  •  S/S Socket-heads.
  • Enricher mod.
  • Fabricated Diaphragms.  (Anxious to get it on the road to test these.)
  • Polished venturis.  (Interested in whether this detail can squeeze an extra Kilometer or two out of a tank-full.  Currently +52 MPG @ 100KPH)

It looks like you’ve mounted those beautifully renovated carbs on a plinth as a showpiece.  It’s almost a shame to think of them being hidden away under the tank!
