My 79 A1 is delivering almost 4 of the 5 gallon or so tank.. Not good, and not confidence inspiring given I live in the sticks with few petrol stations around the best riding roads..

So, ‘Calibrated’ fuel gauge by filling tank, then draining 1 gallon per time. Surprising, I know, but the fuel gauge is completely non-linear. Imagine that.

Worse yet, after 4 gallons drained on a 5+ gallon tank.. no more fuel delivery. On the KZ, tank outlet and carb inlet.. maybe .5 inches..

Back in the day, ran a fuel pump and regulator. May have to re-think this idea. Problem back then was the regulator, at minimum, exceeded float/seat and would flood out.

Running Pingle petcock. Cleaned it up. Not running external filter or quick disconnect fitting externally to minimize flow resistance.

My tank will be sent off for professional cleaning and sealing.

Fuel line routing.. Is there consensus as to most efficient route? Mine currently goes between throttle cables, around valve cover to inlet. Using MotionPro fuel line,
it's very flexible and stout. 5/16" ID.

At the inlet.

At the 'bend around the corner, RHS of bike.

Gauge calibration and flow delivery test. Nothing after 4 gallons, even on reserve.

As she sits. Installed soft saddlebags. Looking to purchase some portable plastic gas cans to carry extra fuel.

Running a Pingel, found this Post on KZ1300.com

Think I'll try the KISS method(s) first...

Just rambling....

In one of his many Carb topic posts Scotch has mentioned what routing he has found to be the best for him (can't put my finger in that post right now though)

Routing is dependant on fuel valve style. Basically: Keep it short and avoid "Hills & Valleys".

The pictures of the internal fuel filter is the perfect example of what I was referring to regarding the OEM fuel valve, in an earlier post. I doubt any valve could sustain a positive seal with repeated on/off cycles grinding the internal surfaces with particulate, if allowed to get into the valve.

Happy to report after the last ~180 mile ride, oil consumption reduced.
Now on to the next issue, Fuel Delivery.

But first, had to service the CBX for tomorrow's ride, after installing an Ivan's ECU reflash into the the 2013 Yamaha FJR 1300.

Like the new bikes, LOVE the old ones...
