They're all peeled like a banana. WOW !! Never seen anything like it. Almost like someone put a pin punch through them from the backside.
Only you would go so deep into a carb that you needed a microscope. What's next Ant Man ??

Wow! LOve especially the last photo! That's a lot of corrosion.
Looking at the peel and the pitting, it seems to me that the edge would be so thin, and possibly split already, that any attempt at cleaning would make it fold this, causing this 'banana peel effect'. But also, who knows what had been done to them in the past.
The lesson I'm drawing from this is - for a peace of mind, when doing carbs, just replace the jets with new original Mikuni ones.

Curiosity got the best of me so I found the idle-jet that was stuck in the carb body that was donated several years ago for my "experimentation", (Thanks ! You know who you Are)
This idle jet shows the same pitting and galling as the six that are currently waiting to be replaced. I'm convinced this destruction to the fine finish and tolerances is from Cavitation Erosion and is a condition that we can not control or eliminate ..............................yet !

That adds to complete the picture. Now, the topic can be renamed to 'How your idle jets get naturally F&%#-up' :woohoo:

scotch, do you think Mikuni would be interested enough to comment if you forwarded your photos to them?

Awesome pics Scotch. I'd like to see a pic of your microscope/camera setup. Getting the light down the bore and filming- quite a feat ! Bravo !!
