Dang,  That's the way it should start!!

Did you find that the Ricks Starter was a bit shorter than the original? Also did the Ricks Starter seem very tight on the gear when in place? Either of these a concern for you?  

Sadly, I shipped my Ricks Starter back already without actually trying it.   I guess I will try to rebuild the original, and if that doesn't work I'll order one again.

I didn't notice it was any shorter or tight on the gear

Hmm... I'm pretty sure I got the right one from RIcks, but it was definitely a little shorter (the old one was flush against the  end of 'clutch' gear, the Ricks starter was at least 1/8 inch short of reaching the end. ugg.

Ricks has always been good to me when calling with questions. Seems to me that all parts can be refurbished by the casual user except the actual windings...

My bet is somewhere, that starter model has been used on other bikes too. 

The secret is to find which one!
