Hi All,
This is the second time I've mentioned this subject of the fuel cap leaking, last time I was advised to make
sure that the breather pipe that runs through the tank was clear. This I did and didn't really make a big difference
when the tank was filled up.

Last week I received and fitted a none genuine new cap that I got from eBay thinking this would for sure stop the petrol leaking
out, no good either maybe even worse. I noticed that the none genuine didn't have a breather pipe to align with the
hole in the tank.

has anyone got any other ideas on this, or is this something that the kz13 will do and just have to make sure I don't fill
the tank more than 3/4 (or less) . Watching a steady stream of petrol working its way towards my privates when riding
isn't good, good job I'm a none smoker.

cheers Pete,

Mine suffers form this. I've changed all of the rubber seals and made sure the internal breather tube is clear.

If I have a full tank and have to brae suddenly I see a wave of petrol flood from the front of the cap and then it heads back towards your privates when you accelerate.

I think mine is leaking through the lock mechanism?

I purchased a new 79 KZ1000 ST and after it was out of warranty, my fuel cap started the same quirk, sloshing fuel out of the cap, when the tank was full.

We had a very good dealership (Black Hills Kawasaki) in South Dakota who made sure I had a new tank, (Recall the bike was out of warranty then) and the new tank did the same thing. it was later discovered that there was a vent issue, and a new cap took care of the problem.

You may have verified that the line was clear on the tank but have you removed the cap down to its elements and made sure all is on order with the cap portion?

I consistently fill my A-4 to the brim with no sloshing issues.

Regards.

I have found that the latch itself on the cap wears and doesn't allow the lid to clip down tight and lets the fuel spill, think it's made of rubbish alloy, don't know how to just "add a bit" to build it up to stop the problem, also the German site has caps, think he has vented and non vented, cheers

Ok thanks for your comments,
I have taken the cap to bits cleaned, lubricated and everything seemed to be okay, but maybe a bit worn,,
the replacement one I bought seems to apply pressure against the seal when closings so was surprised to see so much petrol coming out,,
not sure now if I should buy another as suggested maybe from the German site, shame I couldn't try before buying or I could end up with a few of them.

cheers Pete.

I have the same problem with mine. I disassembled my cap and cleaned it. Unfortunately, I broke the head off of one of the tiny screws that retains the spring so now it fits on kind of lopsided. Haven't gotten around to extracting and replacing that screw yet and if the tank is full it'll leak from the top if I sit at a hill for too long.

I have found, though, when I was de-rusting it with evaporust that if I used ratcheting tie downs and put plenty of pressure on the cap that I can make it have an airtight seal and I can literally leave the tank upside down for weeks and have no leaks lol.
