Hi all ..........I'm new on here so if this is in the wrong place ....apologies ...
I have a 1980 kz13 a2 that was running fine apart from a rough idle .......I took it to a local bike garage and asked him to balance the carbs........it now runs like it is only firing on 4 or 5 .......he swears he has done nothing but balance the carbs ...
all the plugs are sparking .........any ideas ? thanks

My gut reaction is to say an idle circuit is plugged. Once the main jets kick in it's fine (they aren't as picky as the idle is), but that's where I'd start.

One or more of the carbs may have been set "wrong" to try to compensate, and a sync make have kicked it far enough out to make the whole bike run like crap.

I'm no expert, but depending on how long the bike had sat beforehand, a carb cleaning and go-through may be in order.

The carby idle circuits are one of the big bugbears of the Z13s, ask any long term owner and you are likely to get raised eyebrows and a groan.

I don't know where you stand on doing carb work but I will tell you this there is a few of us on here that are good with these carb and can talk you thru a cleaning and over haul. My other suggustion is if your carb guy has never worked on Z 1300 or KZ 1300 carbs don't let him touch them. They do not work quit like a single barrle carb, the other thing you need to do is get a color tuneing plug its a big help and takes a lot of guess work out of it.

I took my carb's to a local carb and fuel injection shop along with a photo copy of the section on the carb's from my OEM service manual and they were able to clean them out and set them up/balance them on their flow bench for me, Worked out great for me.
