This article shows the Pingel model #6211-AH fuel valve as installed on Chip's Kawasaki KZ1300 and as installed on my Voyager ZN1300.

pingel-6211-ah-fuel-valve-install2073s.jpg (132008 bytes)   Chip also bought one of their fuel filters and insulated his gas line to prevent vapor lock issues.  There are other styles of insulation available including a thick 'bubble wrap style' and thin version of radiant barrier which I use sometimes.  There is some flexible electrical wiring shield material available through your local auto parts store that some use for this too.  It's the same stuff that you see on all the new cars to shield the wiring under the hood.  Check my revised fuel routing on the 'Carb Close-ups' tech article.

pingel-6211-ah-fuel-valve-install2074s.jpg (171168 bytes)   This is an install on a Voyager but the hole does not have to be enlarged quite as big as I show it here.  This worked OK, but I used a rasp in a drill to open the hole up and I went larger than I really needed to.  You do have to enlarge the stock opening some for clearance because the valve is larger than the stock slotted hole that it's fitting through, but you only need to open it a little bit and not near as far as I went here.

Before you open up this hole and depending on your situation, you may of just emptied gas out of your tank so you've got a lot of gas smell.  If I had just dumped gas out of my tank before attempting this install then you should do something to prevent sparks from possibly igniting the gas vapors in the tank.  Usually, I'm doing the Pingel install in conjunction with coating the inside of the tank with POR-15 which I have another tech article on.

The first thing you do with the POR-15 routine is wash out the tank with their 'Marine Clean' product.  This is an enzyme cleaner as I understand and for sure, if you're using a product like this you must use rubber gloves and protective goggles as you don't want to get a drop of it in your eye full strength and put your eye out.  You can buy a similar product through your local auto parts store but their 'Marine Clean' product will take even the smell of gas out of your tank.  Amazing stuff and you just wash it out with water!

Keep in mind that when you're grinding or filing on that hole you're almost for sure going to get a certain amount of metal filings inside your tank.  If you're not coating your tank and you don't want to put water in it you might try rinsing it with Diesel beforehand to dilute any gas fumes and when you're finished grinding, you could rinse the shavings out with Diesel or gas I suppose.

pingel-6211-ah-fuel-valve-install2083s.jpg (44751 bytes)   Put some thread tape around the threads on the valve and screw it in.

pingel-6211-ah-fuel-valve-install2088s.jpg (101301 bytes)   Make sure it's pointed the right direction when you get it on.  Now is a good time to check your fuel injection return line check valve (on ZN or ZG1300's) to make sure it's free and add some thread tape to it when you re-install it.

Order Pingel petcock part #6211-AH @ $70.95 as of 8/06, Adapter Plate is #A1702C @ $19.95. Order Tool Free from Pingel at 1.888.474.6435 or online at -

You can use their fuel filter and I assume SS = stainless steel, part #SS1P (Polished, 1 in 1 out) = $25.95, or the #SS1C Filter (SS Chrome, 1 in 1 out) = $29.95.   david@kz1300.com

NOTE: On these newer browsers I've noticed that they don't always display my large images in full size when you open an image from the thumbnails.  Once you click the thumbnail and open the larger image, if you 'mouse over' the image you should see a " + " symbol or some other indicator like a box with arrows usually on the bottom right edge of the image.  If you click on the indicator, then the image will expand to it's full size which displays full screen on computers that use a 800 x 600 resolution setting for the monitor.  If you click the indicator again it will go back to the smaller image. Some people use a resolution setting of 1024 x 768 or higher on their monitors and for those users the images will appear smaller than full screen in size.  You can change your monitor settings easily enough if you desire.  Also, the indicator I've noticed is slow to appear even after the image appears to of completely loaded.  The indicator in Netscape seems to be a lot faster to display than the one in Internet Explorer.
