Last Update 6/2/10

This section has changed from files posted online on a site that you had to login to access, to files mostly in .pdf, .html and .jpg format that I use to write to CD's at least once a year.  Originally I was offering these files on 2 CD's, but due to the fact that I now have right at 2 gigabytes of files on my KZ1300.com domain, there were a lot of files I was not including on the CD's, because I would of had to write 4 CD's to include everything.  Even trying to break up files just to write 2 CD's was difficult enough, and there were always new files I wanted to add, but couldn't without adding another CD to the mix.

With a DVD format I can go up to 4.5 gigabytes worth of files on one disk.  What that means though is that you have to have a DVD drive on your computer to use it.  If your computer is no more than about 5 years old, you probably have a combination CD/DVD drive on your computer right now.  An easy way to tell is to go grab a DVD that you watch on your TV and pop it into the drive and see what happens.  If it is compatible, and you have playing software and the proper codec's installed, it should ask you if you want to watch the video.  You can have a DVD drive that is capable of pulling up and looking at the files loaded on the DVD, without it actually having software loaded where it can play the video on the DVD.  Further, you can have DVD playing software installed but not have the proper codec's installed which actually decode the video, and it still won't work for a video DVD.

But either way, put it in and pull up Windows Explorer as you would if you were going to look at files on your hard-drive, and see if you can access the drive and see the files themselves.  If so, that's all you'll need to be able to do to view my DVD because that's what I'm sending you, one DVD with files, and one DVD that you can watch on your TV.  If not, and you can't access a DVD on your computer, you have the option of adding a DVD player to it.  If your computer is at least new enough to be running Windows 95, it should have a USB port on the back.  It's a small square plug and most older pc's may only have one plug, where newer pc's have sometimes 4 or 5 USB ports and they may be on the back or mounted on the front.  Your mouse, keyboard or printer may be plugged into your USB.  If you only have one USB and you're using it as a printer port for example, they make USB splitters that plug into your 'one' USB into and it will give you like 4 USB's which all share the one USB connection.

I say all that to say this.  You can go to your local electronics store and get an external DVD player that plugs into your USB port for probably $50 or less these days.  They're really cheap.  You could also get a more expensive DVD player / writer combination if you wanted that will allow you to write your own DVD's (assuming you have or buy the software).  Either way, it's a cheap plug-in upgrade to add an external DVD drive to your pc, or you can take it in to your local pc expert and have a regular CD/DVD combination drive installed in place of your original 'CD only' drive.  The choice is yours, but the point is that I'm not writing any more paid member CD's.  Too much work for a mere $50.  If your pc is so old you can't add a DVD drive to it, what would you do with the 2 gigabytes / 16,000+ files I'm sending you anyway?

The other thing I recently added was a video DVD that a member sent in from France of him running hot laps on the SPA International race track during their yearly classic bike races.  I have this in PAL version (some overseas countries use PAL) and NTSC version (used primarily in the USA but some other countries use it too).  The video DVD is merely a bonus, as it was sent to me from a member in France who is a longtime 1300 enthusiast.  It came in 'PAL' format and I converted it to 'NTSC' format for USA viewers.  The NTSC conversion was not perfect as there's some duplication of scenes, but it's extremely good quality video that was professionally done with a camera mounted on the bike.

If for some reason it doesn't work in your DVD player you should be able to watch it on your PC.  And that's assuming all the things we just discussed relevant to DVD software and codec's.  I understand that you have to have certain software installed with your DVD drive to enable it to view video style DVD's and you may have to hunt down files on the internet called Codec's and install them as well.  This was what I had to do and I don't understand why it all doesn't just come with the DVD drive in one package as that would seem logical, but then, what do I know.

A donation of any amount is always accepted and appreciated, but for a minimum one time donation of $50.00 USD, you can become a paid member of this site and get the current DVD's.  I can't make the files into a download because there's about 2 gigabytes or more worth of files on this disk!  However, by writing the disk this way I can keep it up to date, and you'll have every file on the DVD that's on my computer at the time I burn the disk.

I'll always have free ads and technical information as the main goal of the site to begin with was to help the 1300 owners repair any problems and get them back on the road.

Start from this page http://www.kz1300.com/tech.html and bookmark it.

Next, was to provide a forum for owners to contact each other, share stories, build mutual friendships, ride together locally or yearly in the Rally(s), submit useful information for others to benefit from, and all the other things that progress from being part of the club.  Seeing how we're only about 10 years old now since we started the club 02/1998, I'd say we've made decent progress.  As of today, there are almost 14,000 files residing on the KZ1300.com and ZN1300.comdomains!

There are also two good discussion groups on 1300's that are not associated with this site:

Z1300 discussion group on yahoo.com - A discussion group on all Z1300's moderated by Bill Rodgers.

Voyager 1300 discussion group on yahoo.com  - A discussion group on Voyager 1300's moderated by Michael W. Fenwick.

Few of you can even imagine the hours it takes just to manage this many files on a weekly basis, much less how many hours I've spent creating some of this mess!  I've managed to keep costs fairly low for web space and so forth, but my time investment is huge.  Ergo, the paid member DVD's.  The things I'll put on these disks are things that are just icing on the cake, but nevertheless, take a considerable investment of time to accomplish.   There is some really good information in these articles, some specifications on our bikes, details on different accessories, comparison articles to other motorcycles, details on the technical features of our bikes and so forth.  The hardcore 1300 enthusiast will enjoy this type of thing.  To get your one time or yearly membership, all you need to do is make a minimum $50 donation via PayPal,  personal check, money order, cashiers check or other form of payment remittable in the US to:
